The Arabic Alphabet

Arabic is written with a version of Arabic alphabet (Arabic: الْأَبْجَدِيَّة الْعَرَبِيَّة‎‎), which is an abjad, or consonant-only script. The Arabic alphabet has 28 basic letters, plus modified letters that can be accessed by using inbuilt vowel marks and symbols (diacritics). The early history of alphabetic writing goes back to a Proto-Sinaitic script in Ancient Egypt. However, it was not until around 800 BCE that sounds began to be represented by signs for vowels as well as consonants. This created digraphic systems that could support languages other than just Ancient Egyptian.

Reading with Tajweed

To help you teach your children Quran, don’t forget to read along with them. Try out a software program that reads Quranic Arabic in slow and clear tones while highlighting each word as it is recited. Doing so will help your child connect what he or she is reading with how it sounds and will also enable them to improve their pronounciation and reading skills as they get older. It can also be a good way for you (and your kids) to get into a habit of daily prayer. Think of all those five-times-daily reading sessions as mini prayers!

Complete Memorization

If you think memorizing all 6,236 Arabic words of The Quran sounds like a herculean task, you’re not alone. Some of our most experienced teachers remember it took them many years to complete full memorization. But it’s one thing to memorize your first 10 or 15 ayahs, and another thing entirely to memorize a whole surah. We take pride in teaching children how to learn The Quran at a healthy pace that helps them retain their knowledge over time. With practice and patience, children should be able to memorize 1–2 surahs every year until they have learned all 114 chapters of The Quran.

best teaching technique online in Quran

Learning how to teach is a lot like learning how to learn. This may sound silly, but it’s really important that you focus on yourself and your own process as much as possible. Whatever works for someone else might not work for you, and even if it does, it might not work well. You want your instruction style or online Quran teaching for kids technique online in Quran teaching practice to fit your personality and teaching goals rather than trying to emulate a teacher who already has their act together or who may be more advanced than you are. Start slow with one or two children and get comfortable with having someone listen intently while you speak—and then figure out what works for them later on down the line!
